Zooey Deschanel to (Hopefully) Play Computer Programmer Ada Lovelace

Rumour has it Nod favourite Zooey Deschanel will soon be taking a break from her usual Manic Pixie Dream Girl shtick to play Ada Lovelace in a new film called Enchantress of Numbers.

Best known for her work writing the first computer algorithm, Lovelace is often referred to as the first ever computer programmer. Ada Lovelace Day, a celebration of women working in technology and science, was named in her honour and takes place in March every year. She also just happened to be the daughter of Lord Byron.

With a background like that, it’s no surprise a film is being made of her life. And Zooey, a favourite with geeks and hipsters alike, may just be the perfect choice to play the world’s first female computer nerd.

Before that, though, she’ll be touring with M. Ward and their band, She & Him. The duo performed at Coachella this week, and apparently did a stonking rendition of Chuck Berry’s Roll Over Beethoven! ( The Nod )
